School Background Christie’s Carousel of Learning, previously known as St. Mary’s Merry-go-Round of Learning, was established in 1981. We spent 25 years at St. Mary’s Episcopal church before moving to our current location, the Park Ridge Presbyterian Church, in 2006. Our parents, Georgia & Gene Christie, started the school along with us and our brothers and sisters, with the idea of providing a loving, caring, enjoyable environment for both children and parents. It actually all started back in 1960 when they moved our family to Park Ridge for their excellent school system. Education was extremely important to them as parents, as well as keeping the family continuously involved with their faith at St. Mary's Episcopal Church. From Field School to Emerson and then Maine South, all of their children followed these stepping stones of education. All continued onto college and each received degrees in their field of choice.
As their daughters, it was not surprising that education was our field of interest, since we had helped our mother teach Sunday school for many years at St. Mary's. It was during that time, when the pre-school director at St. Mary's was planning to retire, that our dream of starting our own school became a reality. After months of remodeling, learning all of the rules and regulations, and receiving our license, the school was officially opened in September of 1981. Jan Christie Pagone |
